Instructions for Use, Care and Sterilization

Clean soiled instruments manually or mechanically as quickly as possible in a dedicated area. Quick cleaning removes blood much more easily and can minimize staining, corrosion and/or etching on instruments. Be sure to use approved cleaning agents.

Ultrasonic cleaner

  • Remove coarse dirt before use.
  • Use an enzymatic cleaner
  • Use treated water if necessary
  • Change fluid AT LEAST daily
  • Always use lids
  • Do not leave the machine unattended.
  • Regularly performs a 'foil text'.

Washing and Rinsing

After cleaning, the instruments should be washed and rinsed thoroughly with lukewarm water to ensure that all dirt and soap residue is removed.

Inspection

Each instrument should be critically inspected after each cleaning for residual dirt or damage. Replace instruments as needed, and never sterilize a “dirty” instrument. In addition, each instrument should be checked for proper function and lubricated as needed. Hinged instruments with stiff joints may be a sign of inadequate cleaning.

Sterilization

Before sterilizing in an autoclave, it is essential to dry the instruments thoroughly. Sterilization by steam autoclave, unsaturated chemical vapor, drying oven, or rapid drying oven is acceptable. Only distilled water should be used in autoclaves to avoid limescale deposits. Follow these guidelines:

Sterilization times

  • Steam autoclave:
  • Gravity Displacement: 30 minutes at 250°F / 121°C (15 psi)
  • Pre-vacuum: Minimum 5 minutes at 273°F / 134°C
  • Unsaturated chemical vapor:
  • 20 minutes at 270°F / 132°C (20–40 psi)
  • Dry heat:
  • 60–120 minutes at 320°F / 160°C
  • Fast drying heat transfer:
  • 12 minutes at 350°F / 177°C for wrapped items, 6 minutes at 350°F / 177°C for unwrapped items.
